God asks Job a question now. And Job does something very wise — he gets quiet.
Today's Story
God stops and turns the question to Job. “You have had a lot to say,” God says gently. “Now then — do you want to answer Me?”
And Job does the wisest thing. He doesn't argue. He doesn't make excuses. He puts his hand over his mouth and says, “I am not important enough to answer You. I have already said too much. I will be quiet now.”
Job is learning that standing close to such a big, good God makes you want to listen more than talk.
Then God shows Job one of His amazing creatures. “Look at the great beast I made,” God says. “It is huge. It eats grass like a cow. Its body is so strong. It lies down in the shade by the river, calm and unafraid. No person could ever make a creature like that — but I did.”
God is saying something kind to Job: I am stronger than the strongest thing you can think of. I made it, and I take care of it. You can let Me take care of you, too.
Sometimes the best thing we can do with God is stop, get quiet, and remember how big and good He is.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- When is it hard for you to stop talking and just listen? What helps you get quiet?
- Job put his hand over his mouth in front of God. Why do you think being near God made Job want to listen instead of argue?
- God showed Job a creature so strong only God could make it. What does that tell us about how strong God is?
