Joshua 17 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

Five sisters bravely speak up, and learn that God's promises are for everyone — including them.

Today's Story

A man named Zelophehad had died, and he had no sons — only five daughters: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. In those days, usually only sons received the family's land. So would these five sisters get nothing, and have no home?

But the five sisters were brave. They came together to Joshua and the leaders and respectfully said, “Long ago, God told Moses that we should receive a share of land among our family, even though we have no brothers. Please give us our inheritance.”

And guess what? They were right! God had indeed said so. So Joshua gave the five sisters their very own land, just as God had commanded. God made sure these daughters were included and cared for, with a home of their own.

This shows us something beautiful: God's promises and care are for EVERYONE — boys and girls, big families and small ones, the noticed and the overlooked. No one is left out of God's love. And it's good to bravely and respectfully ask for what is right.
