Joshua 3 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

God's people reach a flooded river with no bridge — but God makes a dry path right through it!

Today's Story

The Israelites finally reached the Jordan River, the last thing between them and the Promised Land. But it was flood season, and the river was deep, wide, and rushing fast. How would they ever cross?

God gave Joshua a plan. “Tell the priests to carry the holy ark of God and step into the river first.” That took faith! The water was rushing, but the priests obeyed and walked right up to the edge.

The moment the priests' feet touched the water — WHOOSH! — the river stopped flowing! The water piled up in a heap far upstream, and the riverbed became dry ground! The priests stood in the middle holding the ark, and all the people of Israel walked across on dry land, safe and amazed!

Just as God had parted the Red Sea for their parents, He now parted the Jordan River for them. When we step out in faith and obey God, He makes a way where there seems to be no way.

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. The priests had to step into the rushing water BEFORE God stopped it. Why does obeying God sometimes mean stepping out before we see how it'll work?
  2. God made a dry path through an impossible river. What “impossible” things can God help us through?
  3. God did the same miracle for the children that He did for their parents. How does that show God never changes?
