Micah's homemade “gods” get carried off — and the mix-up spreads, showing how turning from God leads others astray.
Today's Story
Remember Micah and his homemade idols? Well, the tribe of Dan was traveling, looking for a place to live. Along the way, they came to Micah's house, and they decided to take his idols and his priest for themselves! Poor Micah was upset, but the Danites just took everything and went on their way.
The Danites found a city, settled there, and set up Micah's idols to worship — leading a whole tribe into worshiping fake gods instead of the true God. What started with one man's homemade idols spread to a whole group of people!
That's how it often goes when people turn away from God: it doesn't just affect one person; it can lead others astray too. Doing wrong has a way of spreading, like ripples in a pond.
But here's the hope: no matter how far people wander, God is always calling them back. He doesn't want us chasing after fake “gods” that can't help us. He wants us to come home to HIM, the true and living God, who loves us. Let's always come home to God, and help others find their way to Him too.
A Big Word
Talk About It
- One man's idols led a whole tribe astray. How can our choices — good or bad — affect the people around us?
- The fake gods couldn't really help anyone. Why is it better to trust the true, living God?
- God is always calling people home. How can we help someone find their way back to God?
