Luke 21 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

Jesus watches people give their offerings — and points out the smallest gift as the greatest of all.

Today's Story

Jesus was sitting in the temple, watching people put their gifts into the offering box. Many rich people came and put in large amounts of money — clink, clink, clink! It was easy for them; they had plenty to spare.

Then a poor widow came. She was a woman whose husband had died, and she had almost nothing. She put in just two tiny copper coins — the smallest coins there were. It hardly made a sound. Some people might not have even noticed.

But Jesus noticed! And He said something surprising to His disciples: “I tell you the truth, this poor widow has given MORE than all the others!”

“How?” they wondered. Jesus explained: “The rich gave out of their plenty — they had lots left over. But this widow gave out of her need. She gave everything she had.” Her two little coins were given with a whole, loving, trusting heart. And that made them the greatest gift of all.

God doesn't measure our gifts by how big they are. He looks at the love in our hearts.

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. The widow gave only two tiny coins, but Jesus said she gave the most. How can a small gift be the greatest?
  2. Jesus looked at the love behind the gift, not the size. Why does God care about our hearts more than our amounts?
  3. The widow gave everything she had, trusting God. What's something you could give to God or others with a loving heart?
