Jesus stands up in His hometown and announces the wonderful reason He came.
Today's Story
After being baptized, Jesus went into the desert, where the devil tempted Him to do wrong. But Jesus stayed strong, answering each time with God's Word: “It is written…” The devil couldn't win, and he left.
Then Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, came to Nazareth, the town where He grew up. On the Sabbath, He stood up in the place of worship and read from the scroll of Isaiah: “God's Spirit is on Me. He has sent Me to bring good news to the poor, to set prisoners free, to give sight to the blind, and to help the hurting.”
Then Jesus rolled up the scroll, sat down, and said something amazing: “Today, this Scripture has come true!” He was saying, “I'm the One Isaiah wrote about! I've come to bring all this good news!”
Jesus came to bring good news to everyone who is poor, hurting, trapped, or sad. That's why He came — to bring God's love and rescue to people who need it.
