Malachi 4 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

This is the very last chapter before a long quiet time in the Bible. And God ends it with a warm, happy promise.

Today's Story

Malachi had reached the end of his message. And God wanted to leave His people with hope to hold onto.

God promised that a wonderful day was coming. He painted a beautiful picture for it. He said it would be like the sun coming up in the morning — bright and warm, with healing in its rays. All the cold and dark and sad things would melt away in that good morning light.

God said the people who love Him would feel so happy and free they would jump and skip like little calves let out of the barn into the warm sunshine. Can you picture that? Leaping for joy in the morning sun!

Then God made one more promise. Before that great day, He would send a special helper — a messenger like the brave prophet Elijah. And this helper would do something sweet: he would turn parents' hearts toward their children, and children's hearts toward their parents. He would bring families close again.

Then the message ended. For a long, long time, God's people would not hear a new word from a prophet. But they had this last promise to keep them warm: a sunrise was coming.

And one day — it all came true.

Talk About It

  1. Have you ever had to wait a long time for something good? What was it like while you waited?
  2. God said His people would be so happy they would jump like calves in the morning sun. What makes you that happy — happy enough to jump?
  3. God promised to turn the hearts of parents and children toward each other. What is one way our family could grow closer this week?
