Mark 11 for Kids

Jesus rides into Jerusalem and the crowds go wild with joy — it's the first Palm Sunday!

Today's Story

Jesus was coming to the big city of Jerusalem. He told two disciples, “Go find a young donkey and bring it to Me.” Jesus chose to ride a humble little donkey, not a fancy warhorse.

As Jesus rode into the city, huge crowds went wild with joy! They spread their coats on the road and waved palm branches, shouting, “Hosanna! Blessed is the One who comes in the name of the Lord!” It was a parade for the King — the first Palm Sunday!

When Jesus went into the temple (God's house), He was upset to find people had turned it into a noisy marketplace, cheating others. “My house is supposed to be a house of PRAYER,” Jesus said, “for all nations!” He cared deeply that God's house be a place to meet God.

Later, Jesus taught His friends about prayer. “Have faith in God,” He said. “When you pray, believe. And when you pray, forgive anyone you're holding something against.”

Jesus came as a humble King, full of joy and power — and He taught His friends to pray with bold faith and forgiving hearts.

  2. Jesus chose a humble donkey, not a fancy horse. What does that tell you about what kind of King Jesus is?
  3. Jesus taught us to pray with faith AND to forgive. Who is someone you need to forgive as you pray?
