Mark 4 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

Jesus and His friends are caught in a terrifying storm on the sea — and Jesus shows He's in charge of even the wind and waves.

Today's Story

Jesus had been teaching all day, telling stories about God's kingdom — like how a tiny seed grows into a great big plant. (Even small faith can grow huge!) By evening, He was tired.

“Let's cross to the other side of the lake,” Jesus said. They got in a boat and set off. Jesus was so tired He fell fast asleep on a cushion in the back.

Then a HUGE storm blew in. The wind howled, the waves crashed over the sides, and the boat began filling with water! Jesus' friends were terrified. But Jesus? Still sound asleep.

They shook Him awake. “Teacher! Don't You care that we're going to drown?!”

Jesus stood up. He looked at the raging storm and said just three words: “Quiet! Be still!” And instantly — the wind stopped. The waves went flat. Everything was perfectly calm and peaceful.

The friends sat there amazed. “Who IS this?” they whispered. “Even the wind and the waves obey Him!” Jesus turned to them gently. “Why were you so afraid? Don't you have faith yet?” The One who made the sea had been right there in the boat with them all along.

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. The disciples were terrified, but Jesus was right there with them. When you're scared, how does it help to remember Jesus is with you?
  2. Jesus calmed the storm with just three words. What “storms” — scary or hard things — would you like Jesus to calm in your life?
  3. The friends asked, “Who IS this?” Who do YOU think Jesus is?
