Two people are desperate for Jesus' help — a worried dad and a sick woman — and Jesus shows that no one is too small or too far gone for Him.
Today's Story
A leader named Jairus came running to Jesus and fell at His feet. “Please!” he begged. “My little girl is dying. Come and heal her!” So Jesus went with him, and a huge crowd pressed in all around.
In the crowd was a woman who had been sick for twelve long years. No doctor could help her. She thought, “If I can just touch Jesus' clothes, I'll be healed.” So she reached out and touched the edge of His coat — and instantly, she was well!
Jesus stopped. “Who touched Me?” The woman came trembling and told the truth. Jesus said gently, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.” He wasn't angry — He called her “daughter” and blessed her.
But just then, sad news came: “Jairus, your little girl has died. Don't bother Jesus anymore.” Jairus's heart sank. But Jesus said, “Don't be afraid. Just believe.”
They went to the house, where everyone was crying. Jesus took the little girl's hand and said softly, “Little girl, get up.” And she opened her eyes and stood right up and walked around! Her parents were overjoyed, and Jesus told them to give her something to eat.
A sick woman, a little girl — Jesus had time and love and power for both. No one is too small or too far gone for Jesus.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- The woman reached out to touch Jesus, sure He could help. What would you like to reach out to Jesus about?
- Jesus told Jairus, “Don't be afraid. Just believe.” When is that hard to do? How can we trust Jesus when things look bad?
- Jesus had time for an important leader AND a sick woman nobody noticed. What does that tell you about how Jesus sees people?
