A huge hungry crowd, only one boy's little lunch, and a Jesus who can do the impossible — get ready for one of the most famous miracles ever.
Today's Story
One day, more than five thousand people gathered on a hillside to hear Jesus, way out in the countryside.
It got late, and everyone was hungry. “Send them away to buy food,” the disciples said. But Jesus said, “YOU give them something to eat.” The disciples gasped — “We can't! That would cost a fortune!”
Then a little boy stepped up with his lunch: five small loaves of bread and two little fish. That was ALL the food there was — barely enough for one boy!
But Jesus took the boy's little lunch, looked up to heaven, and thanked God for it. Then He broke the bread and started handing it out… and handing it out… and it kept coming! Everyone ate as much as they wanted — all five thousand — and there were even twelve baskets of leftovers!
One boy gave his small lunch, and Jesus turned it into a feast for thousands.
That same night, the disciples were back in the boat when Jesus came walking to them — right on top of the water! “Be brave! It is I,” He said. “Don't be afraid.” Jesus could do anything.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- A boy gave his small lunch, and Jesus did something amazing. What “little” thing could you give Jesus — your time, your kindness, your help?
- Jesus fed thousands from almost nothing. Is anything too hard for Jesus?
- Jesus walked on water and said, “Don't be afraid.” When are you afraid, and how can Jesus help?
