Jesus asks His friends the most important question anyone can answer: “Who do you say I am?”
Today's Story
Jesus kept doing amazing things. He fed another huge crowd — thousands of people — from just a few loaves and fish. And He healed a blind man, gently, in two steps (Jesus is patient and takes the time we need).
Then one day, Jesus asked His disciples a question. “Who do people say I am?” “Some say a prophet,” they answered. “But who do YOU say I am?” Jesus asked.
Peter spoke up, and got it exactly right: “You are the Messiah — the Promised One God sent!” Yes! That's the most important thing anyone can know about Jesus.
Then Jesus told them something surprising about being His follower. “If anyone wants to follow Me,” He said, “they need to stop putting themselves first. Take up your cross and follow Me. Whoever tries to keep their whole life for themselves will lose it — but whoever gives their life for Me and the good news will truly find it.”
Following Jesus isn't always easy, but it's the only way to really, truly live. And it all starts with knowing who Jesus is.
