Micah 1 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

Micah was a messenger for God who lived in a small town. God gave him important things to say to two big cities — and he said them because he cared.

Today's Story

God had something to say, and He picked a man named Micah to say it. Micah lived in a little country town. But the message wasn't little. It was for two big cities — Samaria and Jerusalem.

Here was the problem. The people had stopped loving God. Instead, they made statues out of wood and stone and gold, and they bowed down to those. They said, “You take care of us!” to things that couldn't hear, couldn't move, and couldn't love them back.

God could not just leave it. He loved His people too much to let them keep walking the wrong way. So Micah said, “Listen! God Himself is coming down to set things right.”

When Micah thought about the hard days coming, he didn't feel proud. He felt sad. He cried. He even walked around barefoot, the way you might if your heart was aching for a friend. Micah loved these people. He didn't want them to hurt. He wanted them to turn around and come home to God.

A Big Word

Talk About It

  1. What is something you love a whole lot — a toy, a game, a treat? Could it ever love you back the way a person can?
  2. Micah cried because he cared about people who were making bad choices. Has anyone ever told you something hard because they loved you?
  3. God wanted His people to come home to Him. What do you think it means to “come home” to God?
