God's people get into trouble in the desert — and God gives them a simple way to be made well again.
Today's Story
God's people were tired of walking, and they started to grumble again. “Why did you bring us out here? We don't like this food, and there's no water!” They forgot all the good things God had done.
Out in that desert lived snakes — little snakes that could bite. Soon people were getting hurt, and they were very afraid. They ran to Moses and said, “We were wrong to grumble. Please ask God to help us!”
So Moses prayed for the people. And God, who is full of mercy, gave them a way to be made well.
God told Moses, “Make a snake out of shiny metal and put it up on a tall pole. Anyone who is hurt can look up at it, and they will live.”
So Moses made a snake out of bronze and lifted it high on a pole, up where everyone could see it. And it was true! When someone was bitten, they didn't have to do anything fancy. They just looked up at the snake on the pole — and God made them well again.
All they had to do was look up and trust God. And God healed them.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- When you get hurt or scared, who is the first person you look to for help?
- The people only had to look up and trust God to be made well. Why do you think God made it that simple?
- A long time later, Jesus said HE would be lifted up so everyone could look to Him and live. Who can you look to whenever you need help?
