God's people have been walking through the dry desert for a long time, and once again there is no water to drink.
Today's Story
The desert was dry, dry, dry. There was no water anywhere, and God's people were so thirsty. Their throats hurt. Their lips were cracked.
Instead of asking God for help, they grumbled at Moses and his brother Aaron. “Why did you bring us out here? There's nothing to drink!”
Moses and Aaron went and fell on their faces in front of God. And God was kind. He did not shout. He said, “Take your staff. Gather everyone in front of that big rock. Then speak to the rock, and water will pour out for the people and their animals.”
So Moses gathered the people in front of the rock. But Moses was tired and frustrated with all the grumbling. Instead of just speaking to the rock the way God said, he lifted his staff and hit the rock — twice.
And still, God was kind. Water came rushing out! Cold, fresh water, gushing from a rock, enough for every single person and every animal. Everybody drank until they were full.
God gave them what they needed, even when they grumbled, even when they forgot to ask. That is how kind He is.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- When something goes wrong, do you usually grumble first, or ask for help first? What could you try next time?
- The people forgot to ask God and just complained. What is one thing you could ask God for instead of worrying about it?
- God gave the people water even when they grumbled. How does it feel to know God is that kind to you too?
