This time Balaam stops trying to fight God — and out come the most beautiful words of all.
Today's Story
By now Balaam knew the truth: God wanted to bless His people, and that was that. So this time Balaam didn't even try to fight it. He just looked out at all the tents of God's people resting below.
And then the most beautiful words came pouring out of him. “How lovely are your tents! You are like gardens beside a river, like tall trees the Lord has planted. God is with you, and He is strong!”
The king was so angry he clapped his hands. “I asked you to say BAD things, and you have blessed them three times!”
But Balaam said, “I told you. I can only say what God puts in my mouth. I cannot say more, and I cannot say less.”
Then God gave Balaam a peek at something far in the future. “I see him, but not now,” Balaam said. “A bright star will come, and a strong leader will rise up.” God had wonderful plans ahead for His people — plans no angry king could ever stop.
And then Balaam went home, and the king went his way. God's good plan had won, just like it always does.
