Numbers 31 for Kids

God's people face a scary time — and we see how God keeps them safe, and how they thank Him afterward.

Today's Story

God's people were almost home. But first, there was a hard and scary thing they had to face. Some people nearby had tried to lead God's family away from Him and into trouble, and now there was a battle ahead.

God told Moses what to do, and the people listened carefully. They did not rush in on their own or do whatever they wanted. They trusted God and followed His plan step by step.

God watched over His people through the whole frightening time. And when it was all over, something wonderful happened: every single one of their leaders came back safe. Not one was missing! The men who had gone out all came home again.

The leaders were so amazed and so thankful that God had kept them safe. So they had an idea. They gathered up some of their finest treasures — shiny gold and beautiful things — and they brought them to God as a great big thank-you gift.

“Thank You, God,” they said, “for taking care of us and bringing us all home.” When God keeps us safe, the best thing we can do is turn around and thank Him.

A Big Word

Talk About It

  1. When something feels scary, what helps you feel safe again? Who do you go to?
  2. God's people trusted His plan instead of doing whatever they wanted. Why is it good to listen and follow when a wise leader tells us what to do?
  3. The leaders brought a thank-you gift to God. What is something God has done for you that you want to thank Him for right now?
