God teaches His people something we all need to learn: when you make a promise, keep it.
Today's Story
Have you ever made a promise? “I promise I'll share.” “I promise I'll be careful.” A promise is a very big deal. It means people can count on what you said.
God's people made promises to Him — special promises called vows. Sometimes a person would say, “God, I promise to give You this,” or “I promise to do that for You.”
So God gave them an important rule. He said, “When you make a promise to Me, do not break it. Keep your word. Do exactly what you said you would do.”
God meant it. Words matter to Him. When His people made a promise, they were supposed to keep it, even when it was hard, even when no one was watching.
Sometimes a loving grown-up, like a mom or dad, would help check that a young person's promise was a good and wise one. That was a kind way to help. But the big lesson stayed the same for everyone: be a person whose word can be trusted.
God always keeps His promises. And He wants His people to keep theirs too.
A Big Word

- Why do you think it can be hard to keep a promise sometimes? What makes us want to break it?
- God always keeps His promises to us. What is one promise you could make and keep this week?
