Proverbs 1 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

Proverbs is a book full of short, wise sayings. It teaches us how to make good choices every single day.

A wise king named Solomon wrote a lot of it, like a dad teaching his kids how to live well.

Today's Story

Imagine you have a treasure box. But instead of toys, it's full of good ideas - the kind of ideas that help you make the right choice when you don't know what to do.

That's what the book of Proverbs is. King Solomon wanted to give that treasure box to his children, and to you. So he wrote down hundreds of short, wise sayings.

He said wise sayings can help you know what is right and fair. They can make a young person smart. Even a grown-up who is already wise can learn more!

But Solomon shared the most important secret right at the start. He said being truly wise doesn't begin with knowing your numbers or your letters. It begins with loving and respecting God. When you trust that God knows best, you're already becoming wise.

And then he gave one warning: when other kids try to talk you into doing something you know is wrong, don't go along with them. Be brave enough to say no.

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. What's the difference between being smart (knowing lots of facts) and being wise (making good choices)? Can you think of someone who is wise?
  2. Solomon says don't go along when friends try to talk you into doing wrong. Has anyone ever tried to get you to do something you knew was wrong? What did you do?
  3. If God knows the best thing to do in every situation, how can you ask Him to help you when you're not sure what's right?
