Proverbs 12 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

Proverbs is a book full of short, wise sayings. They are like little rules of thumb that help us live in a good way every day.

Today's Story

Proverbs 12 is not really a story. It is a long list of wise little sayings. Each one shows two ways to live - the smart way and the not-so-smart way - and lets you pick.

One saying tells us that words can hurt like a sharp knife, but kind words can make a sad person feel better, the way good medicine helps you when you are sick. So before you speak, you get to choose: a poke, or a hug?

Another saying says that telling the truth lasts forever, but a lie only lasts a little while before it falls apart. The truth is like a strong rock. A lie is like a soap bubble - pretty for a second, then pop.

And here is one a lot of kids love: a good person takes care of his animals. God notices how we treat even the family dog or the goldfish. Being gentle with a small, soft creature shows what is really inside your heart.

Two ways to live. Proverbs says: pick the wise one.

A Big Word

Talk About It

  1. Have you ever had words hurt you like a poke? Have you ever had kind words make you feel better? Tell about it.
  2. Why do you think a lie only lasts a little while, but the truth lasts forever?
  3. How do you treat the animals you know - a pet, a bug, a bird? What is one kind thing you could do for a small creature this week?
