Proverbs is a book of short, wise sayings for everyday life.
Chapter 11 has lots of them. Many are about being fair, being kind, and being someone people can trust.
Today's Story
Long ago, when people bought things at the market, they used a balance scale. You put the thing you were selling on one side and a heavy weight on the other, and the scale showed how much it weighed.
Some sellers cheated. They used a weight that was a little too light, so people paid for more than they really got. The very first saying in this chapter says God hates a cheating scale, but He is happy with a fair and honest one.
That's what this whole chapter is about - being the kind of person who plays fair.
It says: when you brag and act like you're better than everyone, you trip and fall. But when you are humble - when you don't have to be the biggest and the best - good things follow.
It says: when you are kind and give to others, it's like watering a garden. The funny thing is, the one doing the watering gets watered too. Generous people end up blessed.
And it says: a good friend keeps a secret safe and doesn't go blabbing it around.
Fair. Humble. Kind. Trustworthy. That's a wise person.

Talk About It
- The cheating seller used a weight that was a little too light. What are some ways kids can either play fair or cheat - in games, in sharing, in schoolwork?
- The chapter says being kind is like watering a garden, and the one who waters gets watered too. When have you been kind to someone and felt happy yourself afterward?
- A good friend keeps a secret safe. Why does keeping a promise make people trust you more?
