Proverbs 16 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

Proverbs is full of short, wise sayings - little nuggets of the best advice there is. Proverbs 16 is packed with them, about plans, pride, and the words we say.

Today's Story

Imagine you make a big plan. Maybe you're going to build the tallest blanket fort ever, or save up for a special toy. You think about it. You map it out. You can almost see it!

Proverbs 16 says something wise about plans like that: “Commit to the Lord whatever you do.” That means before you start, you talk to God about it. You ask Him to help. You leave room for His good ideas, not just yours.

Then it gives a warning. “Pride comes before a fall.” When you start bragging - I'm the best, look at me, I don't need anybody - that's usually right before you trip. Being humble keeps you steady.

And it ends with one of the sweetest sayings in the whole Bible. “Kind words are like honey. They are sweet to the spirit and bring healing to the body.” Honey is sweet on your tongue. Kind words are sweet to a person's heart.

So here's the plan: hand your plans to God, stay humble, and hand out sweet words like honey.

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. The verse says kind words are sweet like honey. What is the kindest thing anyone has ever said to you? How did it feel?
  2. “Commit to the Lord whatever you do” means asking God to help with your plans. What is one plan you have this week that you could ask God about?
  3. Pride comes right before a fall. Why do you think bragging that you're the best usually doesn't end well?
