Proverbs 17 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

Proverbs 17 is a string of wise sayings about the people around us - what makes a real friend, why a happy heart helps, and how a calm home beats a fighting one.

Today's Story

Proverbs 17 has a saying that everybody loves: “A friend loves at all times. They are there to help when trouble comes.”

Think about that. A real friend isn't just there for the fun days - the parties and the games. A real friend is also there for the hard days, when you're sad or scared or you got in trouble. At all times. That's the kind of friend worth having, and the kind of friend worth being.

The chapter has another wise saying: “A cheerful heart is like good medicine.” When you're happy and you smile and laugh, it's actually good for you - like medicine that helps you feel better all over. A grumpy, gloomy heart does the opposite.

And it says something surprising: it's better to have a dry crust of bread in a peaceful, quiet house than a giant feast in a house full of fighting. Peace is worth more than stuff.

So be the friend who stays. Keep a cheerful heart. And choose peace over fighting - every time.
