Proverbs is full of word-pictures that help truth stick in your head. Chapter 25 has some of the best ones - about your words, your bragging, and even how to treat people who are mean to you.
Today's Story
Proverbs 25 paints pictures with words. Listen to this one: the right word said at the right time is like shiny golden apples sitting in a beautiful silver bowl. Isn't that a nice picture? It means a kind word, said right when somebody needs it, is a beautiful, valuable thing.
Here's another. This chapter says: don't brag about yourself and push to the front. Let other people notice the good you do. It feels much better when they say “great job!” than when you have to say it about yourself.
And here's a surprising one. If someone who is mean to you gets hungry, give them food. If they're thirsty, give them a drink. Being kind to someone who was unkind to you is one of the strongest, bravest things a person can do.
One more. Honey tastes great - but if you eat a whole jar, you'll get a tummy ache! Even good things are best in the right amount.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- Can you remember a time someone said exactly the right kind thing right when you needed it? What did they say? How did it feel?
- The chapter says to let others notice your good work instead of bragging about it. Why do you think bragging makes people feel yucky, even when the thing you did was good?
- What would it look like to be kind to someone who was mean to you this week? Is that easy or hard? Why?
