Proverbs 30 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

Proverbs 30 was written by a wise man named Agur.

He teaches us to be humble - and he points to some tiny animals that are small but very, very smart.

Today's Story

A wise man named Agur wrote this chapter. And the very first thing he says is surprising. He says, “I don't know everything. There is so much I haven't figured out.”

That takes a brave and humble heart! Agur knew that God is the one who knows it all, and that every word God says is true and can be trusted.

Then Agur did something fun. He looked at four tiny animals and said, “These little ones are small, but they are some of the wisest creatures of all.”

First, the ants. They are teeny, but all summer long they work together and store up food so they'll have plenty when winter comes. Second, the little rock badgers, who are not strong at all, but they are smart enough to make their homes high up in the rocks where they're safe.

Third, the locusts. Each one is tiny and has no king to tell it what to do, yet they all move together like a team. And fourth, the little lizard. You can catch it in your hand, but it's clever enough to sneak into kings' palaces!

Agur's point? You don't have to be big or strong to be wise. Even small people - like you - can do wise and wonderful things.

Talk About It

  1. Agur said the ants are wise because they work together and plan ahead. What is something small you could start doing now to get ready for later?
  2. Which of the four little animals is your favorite - the ant, the rock badger, the locust, or the lizard? Why?
  3. It was brave of Agur to say “I don't know everything.” Why is it okay - even good - to admit you're still learning?
