Proverbs 4 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

In Proverbs 4, Solomon shares the wise words his own dad taught him when he was a boy - and now he's passing them on to us.

Today's Story

When Solomon was a little boy, his dad sat him down and gave him some advice he never forgot. Now Solomon wanted to share it with his own children - and with you.

He said, “Hold on to wise words. Don't let them go. They will keep you safe.”

Then Solomon said something really important: “Guard your heart.” He meant that your heart is where your thoughts and feelings and choices come from. It's like the most important room in your whole house. So you should watch carefully over what you let inside it.

What do we let into our hearts? The shows we watch. The words we listen to. The friends we pick. The things we think about over and over. All of those slowly shape who we become.

Solomon also talked about two paths. One path gets brighter and brighter, like the morning sun coming up. That's the good path - the wise path. He said, “Keep your feet on that one. Look straight ahead. And keep walking.”

Talk About It

  1. Solomon says your heart is like the most important room in your house. What kinds of things do we let into our hearts every day? (Shows, songs, words, friends?)
  2. If watching certain shows or hearing certain words can shape who you become, what are some good things you could let into your heart this week?
  3. Solomon talks about a bright path and a dark path. What does it look like to “keep walking” on the good path even when it's hard?
