Proverbs is a whole book of wise sayings - short, true ideas that help you live well every day.
In chapter 8, Wisdom is talked about like a person who is calling out to everyone, hoping they will stop and listen.
Today's Story
Picture the busiest spot in a whole town. The street where every road meets. The gate where everyone walks in and out. People hurrying everywhere.
Now picture someone standing up high in the middle of all of it, calling out in a clear, kind voice so everyone can hear: “Listen! I have something good for you!”
Her name is Wisdom. Wisdom means knowing the right thing to do and then actually doing it.
Wisdom isn't hiding. She isn't whispering only to grown-ups or only to smart people. She calls out to everybody - the little ones too. “Come learn from me,” she says. “What I give you is better than shiny gold or sparkly jewels.”
Then Wisdom says something amazing. She was there at the very beginning, when God made the whole world. When God stretched out the sky and set the sea in its place, Wisdom was right there, like a happy helper, full of joy.
So when you choose the kind thing, the honest thing, the wise thing - you are choosing something God loved from the very start.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- Wisdom is calling out where everyone can hear, even kids. What is one wise thing you already know is the right thing to do?
- Wisdom says she is better than gold and jewels. Why do you think knowing the right thing to do is worth even more than treasure?
- When is it hard to listen and do the wise thing - when you're tired, or upset, or in a hurry? What could help you stop and choose well?
