Proverbs 9 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

Proverbs is full of wise sayings that help you live well every day.

Chapter 9 shows two voices calling out to you, like two open doors. One leads somewhere good. One does not.

Today's Story

Imagine you're walking down a street and you're hungry. Two houses have their doors wide open, and two voices are calling you in for dinner.

The first house belongs to Wisdom. She has been busy all day. She built a strong, beautiful house. She cooked a wonderful meal and set the table just right. “Come in!” she calls warmly. “Come eat at my table and learn. If you listen, you'll grow up strong and wise.”

The other house belongs to a voice called Folly. Folly didn't build anything or cook anything. She just sits in her doorway calling out to whoever walks by, trying to talk people into doing foolish things. She makes them sound fun and easy. But what's really inside her house is trouble.

So which door do you walk through?

The chapter tells us the very best place to start being wise: respecting God. When you love God and care what He thinks, you've already taken your first wise step - and you'll know which door is the good one.

Talk About It

  1. Wisdom worked hard to build her house and make a good meal. Folly didn't make anything. What does that tell you about who is really worth listening to?
  2. Sometimes a foolish choice sounds fun and easy at first. Can you think of a time something seemed fun but turned out to be a bad idea?
  3. The chapter says respecting God is where wisdom starts. What is one way you can show God you love Him this week?
