Long ago, people had to walk a long way to get places. The roads went up and down tall hills. Sometimes the hills looked dark and a little scary.
So the person in this song looks up at the big hills and asks a question: “Where does my help come from?”
And right away, he answers it himself! “My help comes from the Lord. He is the One who made the heavens and the earth.”
Think about that. The God who made every mountain and every star is the same God who watches over you.
The song says something wonderful next. It says God never gets sleepy. He never takes a nap. “He who watches over you will not get tired or fall asleep,” it sings.
When you go to sleep at night, your eyes close. But God's eyes never close. He is awake all night long, watching over you. He is with you when you go out the door, and He is with you when you come back home. The Lord keeps you safe today, tomorrow, and forever.
