Psalms 123 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

Psalm 123 is a short song about looking up to God and waiting for His help. The writer keeps his eyes right on God, like a child watching for a parent.

Today's Story

Have you ever watched a grown-up's hands really closely - waiting to see if they will pour your juice, or hand you the ball, or wave you over?

The writer of this song says that is how he looks at God.

“I look up to You,” he sings. “I look to You, the One whose home is in heaven.” He lifts his eyes up high, all the way to God.

Then he gives a picture. He says, “The way children watch their parents' hands, that is the way we keep our eyes on the Lord our God. We watch and we wait until He is kind to us.”

He was waiting for God to help. He did not look down at the ground, all worried. He looked up. He kept his eyes on God, sure that God would be good to him.

When we need help, we can do the same thing. We can stop looking at all the scary stuff and look up to God instead. He sees us. He loves us. And He will be kind to us - we just keep watching and waiting for Him.

Talk About It

  1. When you need help with something hard, who do you look to first?
  2. The writer kept his eyes on God instead of looking at all the scary stuff. What is something hard you could bring to God instead of worrying about it?
  3. Waiting can be tricky! What helps you wait when you really want help right now?
