Psalm 125 is a song about trusting God. People sang it walking up to God's city, where tall hills stand all around like big stone guards.
Today's Story
The people in this song are walking up to Jerusalem, the city where they go to be close to God. And as they walk, they look up at the big mountains all around.
One mountain is called Mount Zion. It has stood in the same spot for longer than anyone can remember. Wind blows on it. Rain falls on it. Storms come and go. And the mountain just… stays. It never wobbles. It never tips over.
So the people sing, “Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion. They will always be there. They will last forever.”
When you trust God, you get to be steady like that. Not because you're so strong - but because God is holding you.
Then they look at all the hills wrapped around the city, and they sing the best line: “Like the mountains around Jerusalem, the Lord is all around his people.”
Think about that. God is around you like a hug made of mountains. In front of you. Behind you. On every side. Nothing scary can sneak past Him to get to you.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- Who is someone you trust to take care of you? How do you know you can trust them?
- The song says God is all around His people, like mountains around a city. Where are some places you go where it's good to remember God is right there with you?
- A mountain stays put through wind and rain and storms. What is a “storm” in your life - something hard - that you could ask God to help you stand steady through?
