Psalms 126 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

Psalm 126 is a song bursting with joy. God did something so wonderful for His people that they could hardly stop laughing.

Today's Story

Have you ever gotten news so good it felt like a happy dream? Where you almost ask, “Wait - is this really happening?”

That's how God's people felt. They had been far from home for a long, long time. Then God brought them back. And it was so wonderful they sing, “It seemed like a dream come true.”

They couldn't hold the happy in. “Our mouths were filled with laughter. Our tongues sang with joy.” Even the people in faraway lands looked over and said, “The Lord has done great things for them!”

And the people sing right back, “The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.”

Then they share a little secret about sad days. They sing, “Those who cry as they plant will sing with joy at harvest time.”

Think of a farmer planting tiny seeds on a hard day, tears falling. He can't see anything growing yet. But he keeps planting. And months later - tall golden wheat, and big armfuls of food, and singing.

God can do that with your sad days too. The tears now can turn into songs later.

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. What is the happiest news you have ever gotten? Did it make you want to laugh or sing or jump?
  2. The song says God has “done great things for us.” What is one great thing God has done for your family?
  3. A farmer plants seeds on a sad day and can't see anything growing yet, but he keeps going. Is there something hard you're waiting on right now, where you need to keep trusting God?
