Psalms 129 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

Psalm 129 is a short song that God's people sang together on the way to worship. It remembers all the hard times they had been through.

Today's Story

Have you ever had a really hard day? Maybe a hard week? This song is for people who have had a lot of hard days in a row.

God's people had been treated badly for a long, long time. Other people had been mean to them ever since they were a young nation. They sang, “They have hurt me again and again.”

The song uses a picture from a farm. When a farmer wants to plant seeds, he drags a plow across the field and it makes long, deep lines in the dirt. God's people said it felt like someone had dragged a plow right across their backs - long, deep, hurting lines. That is how worn out they felt.

But here is the part that made them lift their heads: “They have hurt me again and again. But they have not won.”

The mean people never knocked God's people down for good. Why? Because God is good and fair. He kept helping His people stand back up, every single time.

Talk About It

  1. What is something hard you have had to keep going through, even when you wanted to quit?
  2. The song says God's people got knocked down but never stayed down. Who helps you get back up when you are having a hard time?
  3. When you are tired and worn out, what is one thing you could say to God?
