Psalm 130 is a little song people sang on their way to worship God. It starts in a sad, low place and slowly fills up with hope.
Today's Story
Have you ever felt so sad that you felt like you were down at the bottom of a deep, deep hole? That is how the person who wrote this song felt.
So he did the best thing anyone can do. He looked up. He called out, “Lord, hear my voice! I am calling out to You from way down here.”
He had done some things wrong, and he knew it. But he also knew something wonderful about God. He sang, “You forgive. That is why people look up to You.” God does not keep a long list of our wrongs to hold against us. He wipes them away.
Then the singer says he will wait for God. But how do you wait when you feel low? He gives us a beautiful picture. He says he waits for the Lord the way a tired guard, standing watch all through the dark night, waits and watches for the morning sun.
That guard is sure the sun will come up. It always does. And the singer is just as sure that God will come and help him.
So even down in the deep hole, his heart begins to feel light. Morning is coming. God is coming.

Talk About It
- When was the last time you felt sad or low, like you were down in a deep hole? What helped you feel better?
- The singer waits for God like a guard waiting for the sun to come up. What is something you wait for that you know for sure is coming?
- God forgives us every time we say sorry. How does it feel to know God is not keeping a list of every mistake you make?
