Psalms 140 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

Psalm 140 is a prayer for help. Some people were being unkind to King David, so he did the wisest thing he could think of - he asked God.

Today's Story

King David had a hard problem. Some people were not being kind to him at all. They said mean things and tried to trip him up and cause him trouble.

David could have tried to be mean right back. But he did something braver and smarter. He talked to God about it.

“Keep me safe, God,” David prayed. “Please rescue me from these troubles.”

Then David remembered who God is, and it made him feel calmer. “Lord, You are my God,” he said. “You are my strong helper. When trouble comes flying at me, You cover me and keep me safe, like a shield in front of me.”

David did not stay worried. He started to trust. “I know You care about people who are treated unfairly,” he said. “You stick up for them. You take care of them.”

And David ended his song with thank-yous. “Good people will thank You, God, and they will get to live close to You.” David handed his whole problem to God - and felt safe.

  1. Has anyone ever been unkind to you? What happened, and how did it make you feel?
  2. Instead of being mean back, David told God about his problem. Why do you think that is a braver, better thing to do?
  3. David called God his “shield.” What does it feel like to know God goes in front of you to keep you safe?
