Psalms 22 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

Psalm 22 is a song King David sang on a day when he felt very alone - but even then, he kept talking to God and holding onto hope.

Today's Story

Have you ever felt so sad or so alone that it seemed like nobody was near? That is how King David felt on this day.

He prayed, “My God, my God, why do You feel so far away?” He cried out in the daytime and at night. It was a heavy, hurting feeling.

But look at what David did. Even when God felt far away, David kept on talking to Him. He didn't stop. He didn't turn away. He held on tight, like a child holding a grown-up's hand in the dark.

Then David started to remember. He remembered all the times God had helped his family long ago. “Our grandmas and grandpas trusted You,” he said, “and You always came through for them.”

And slowly, hope grew. David remembered that God does not ignore people when they hurt. He sang, “God has not turned away. When I cried out, He listened.”

By the end of the song, David was so sure of God that he said even kids who are not born yet will one day hear about how good God is. The sad song turned into a hopeful one.
