Psalms 24 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

Psalm 24 is a big, happy march of a song. People used to sing it as they walked up to God's house, throwing the gates wide open to welcome the great King.

Today's Story

King David started this song with a giant idea. He sang, “The earth belongs to the Lord, and everything in it!”

Think about that. Every mountain and every ocean. Every puppy and every star. Every person, including you - all of it belongs to God, because He made it all.

Then David asked a question: who gets to come close to such a great God? The answer is gentle and good - people with clean hands and a clean heart. That means people who try to do right and tell the truth and love God.

And here comes the best part. David imagined the great King of glory coming home, marching up to the gates of the city. So the people shout to the gates, “Open up wide! Lift your heads, you gates! Here comes the King of glory!”

“Who is this King of glory?” And back comes the answer, loud and glad: “The Lord! He is the King of glory!” The gates swing open, and everyone welcomes Him in.

A Big Word

Talk About It

  1. Look around the room. Everything here was made by God and belongs to Him. What is one thing you see that you're glad God made?
  2. The people threw the gates wide open to welcome the King. What does it look like to make room in your heart to welcome God?
  3. If the great King of glory came to your house, how would you want to welcome Him?
