Psalms 71 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

Psalm 71 is a song from someone who had grown old — and who had loved and trusted God since he was a little child. It is full of hope that lasts a whole lifetime.

Today's Story

Imagine a person with gray hair, who has lived a long, long time. He has seen many years — happy ones and hard ones. And he wants to sing God a song.

He starts at the very beginning. He prays, “God, You have been my hope ever since I was young. You took care of me even when I was a tiny baby.”

He remembers being a little child who trusted God. He remembers growing up with God close by. And now that he is old, he asks God one thing: “Please don't leave me now that my hair is gray. Stay close, like You always have.”

And he knows God will. So he makes a happy promise. He says, “But as for me, I will always have hope. I will praise You more and more!”

He even says he wants to keep telling the next kids about God. “I will tell the children, and their children, how strong and good You are.”

His whole life was one long song of trust — from when he was tiny, all the way to gray hair. And the song wasn't over yet.

Talk About It

  1. This man trusted God when he was little, just like you. Who first taught YOU about God?
  2. He wanted to keep telling kids how good God is. Who is someone you could tell one good thing about God today?
  3. He said he would “always have hope.” What does it feel like to know God will be with you your whole life — even when you grow up?
