Psalm 81 is a happy song for a big party. A music leader named Asaph wrote it for the people of God to sing together.
Today's Story
It is party day! Time to sing!
The song starts loud and glad. “Sing for joy to God!” it says. “Bang the drums. Play the harp. Blow the trumpet!” The people are gathered to remember how good God has been to them.
And what has God done? Long ago, His people were stuck in a faraway land where they had to work too hard. They cried out. And God came and rescued them. He lifted the heavy load right off their backs. “I helped you when you were in trouble,” God says. “I was the One who set you free.”
Then God says something tender. “Listen to Me, My people. I only want what is good for you.”
He even says, “Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.” It is like a daddy bird with a tummy full of good food for his babies. God says: come to Me hungry, and I will give you more than enough.
God loves His people so much. More than anything, He wants them to listen and stay close.
