Romans is a letter a man named Paul wrote to help God's family love God and love each other.
Today's Story
Paul keeps writing his letter to God's family. He just told them the biggest news: God gives us a free gift. He makes us His, even when we have done wrong things. We could never earn it. He just loves us that much.
So Paul asks a question. If God is so kind, should we keep doing wrong things on purpose? “No, not at all!” he says.
Here is how Paul says it. When we belong to Jesus, it is like our old, sad, sinful self went all the way down into the water and was washed away. And then — up we come, brand-new! “Now we can live a new life,” Paul writes.
Think about a caterpillar that turns into a butterfly. It does not crawl in the dirt anymore. It has wings now! That is you, with Jesus. The old way is gone. A new way is here.
So when something mean or selfish whispers, “Come on, do it,” you get to say, “No thank you. I belong to Jesus now. I get to live the good, glad way.”
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- Have you ever gotten to start something over — a game, a drawing, a not-so-good day? How did the fresh start feel?
- A caterpillar becomes a butterfly with brand-new wings. What is one new, good thing you could do this week?
- When something inside says “do the mean thing,” what is a kind thing you could choose instead?
