Ruth 2 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

Ruth and Naomi have no food and no money — so Ruth goes out to work hard, and God leads her right to the kindest man in Bethlehem.

Today's Story

Ruth and Naomi were very poor and had nothing to eat. But God had given His people a kind rule: farmers were to leave the edges and corners of their fields un-picked, so poor people could come and gather the leftover grain. It was God's way of caring for those in need.

So hardworking Ruth said, “Let me go gather grain for us.” She went to a field and worked all day in the hot sun, picking up the leftover stalks.

And it just so happened — though it was really GOD leading her — that the field belonged to a man named Boaz, a good and kind relative of Naomi's. When Boaz saw Ruth, he asked about her, and he'd heard how she had left everything to take care of Naomi.

Boaz was so kind! “Stay in my field,” he said. “Drink my water when you're thirsty. And I've told my workers to leave extra grain for you on purpose.” He even invited her to share his lunch. “May the Lord bless you,” he said, “for you've come to take shelter under His care.”

Ruth went home with arms full of grain — way more than she expected. God had taken care of Ruth and Naomi through the kindness of a good man named Boaz.
