Boaz keeps his promise, and Ruth and Naomi's sad story turns into the happiest ending — one that reaches all the way to a king, and to Jesus.
Today's Story
Boaz went to the town gate, where important business was done, and gathered the leaders. He asked the closer relative if HE wanted to help Ruth and Naomi's family. But that man couldn't do it. So Boaz stood up in front of everyone and said, “Then I will! I will redeem this family, and I will marry Ruth, so her family will be cared for.” Everyone cheered and blessed him.
So Boaz and Ruth were married! The kind man and the loyal woman became a family. And before long, God gave them a baby boy. Oh, what joy!
The women of Bethlehem gathered around Naomi — whose heart had been so broken — and now they rejoiced with her. “Praise God!” they said. “He has not left you alone. This baby will bring you new life and joy.” Naomi held her grandbaby close, and her sad story had become a glad one.
They named the baby Obed. And here's the amazing part: Obed grew up and had a son named Jesse, and Jesse had a son named David — who became the greatest king of Israel! And many years later, from that same family, came Jesus.
So a poor, loyal woman named Ruth, who simply loved and stayed and trusted God, became part of the family of King David — and of Jesus Himself. God took an ordinary family's love and wove it right into His biggest plan.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- Naomi's sad, broken story turned into a glad one with a baby and a family. Has God ever turned something sad in your life into something good?
- Ruth was a poor, foreign woman, but God used her in His biggest plan — King David and Jesus came from her family! What does that tell you about how God uses “ordinary” people?
- The whole town rejoiced WITH Naomi. How can we celebrate with people when good things happen to them?
