What Does Luke 1:69 Mean?
Zacharias reaches for an old image of strength: a horn of salvation — the horn of a mighty animal, emblem of unbreakable power (Psalm 18:2) — raised up in David's house, as God promised to make the horn of David bud (Psalm 132:17).
Notice that the priest's song celebrates a King not from his own tribe but from David's. Salvation comes with strength behind it: mighty to save, not frail or tentative. In Mary's child, the power of God and the line of David meet — a Deliverer strong enough to finish what he begins.
