Jesus closes the controversy with a dividing word. In the war just described there is no spectators' gallery: every hearer stands either with the stronger one or with the strong man.
The image is a shepherd's -- Jesus is gathering a flock, and those not gathering with him are scattering it. Neutrality toward Christ is a decision in disguise. The verse presses gently but firmly: where do I stand, and is my life gathering people toward him or drifting them away?
