What Does Luke 11:33 Mean?
Jesus turns to images of light. A lamp is lit to be set high, not buried in a cellar or covered with a measuring basket. God has not lit the lamp of his truth -- supremely, the Son now shining among them -- in order to keep it secret.
The saying answers the sign-seekers: the light is not hidden; it stands on the lampstand in their midst. If they do not see, the fault is not in the lamp. The verse also commissions: light received is light to be set where others entering may see.
