What Does Luke 11:34 Mean?
Jesus moves from the lamp on the stand to the lamp in the face. The eye is how light enters a person; everything depends on whether the eye is single -- clear, sound, undivided -- or evil.
The seeing he means is moral. A heart aimed singly at God takes in his light and is lit through; a grudging, divided eye turns even light to darkness. The same Jesus stood before that whole crowd -- some were filled with light, others with darker suspicion. What we become depends on how we see.
