What Does Luke 17:11 Mean?
Luke marks another stage of the journey he has been narrating since chapter 9, when Jesus set His face toward Jerusalem and the cross that waits there. The route runs along the borderlands where Samaritan and Galilean territory met — mixed country, where Jew and Samaritan lived within sight of each other.
The geography quietly prepares the story that follows, in which ten lepers — at least one a Samaritan — meet Jesus together. Luke loves this note: the Savior's road keeps passing through the margins, the in-between places respectable religion went around.
