The second servant reports that his pound has gained five more.

What Does Luke 19:18 Mean?

The report is briefer and the yield smaller, five instead of ten, but the shape is the same: honest labor with the trust received, and the gain credited to the pound of the master.

Servants differ in fruitfulness even when the deposit is equal, and the parable lets that stand without blame. What matters is that the trust was worked, not hoarded. God asks what we did with what he gave us, not with what he gave someone else.
