What Does Luke 19:28 Mean?
The road from Jericho climbs some three thousand feet through desert hills. Luke notes that Jesus went before, out in front of his disciples, leading the ascent to the city where, as he has repeatedly foretold, betrayal and death await him.
He is not swept toward the cross; he outpaces everyone else on the way to it. The shepherd goes before the sheep, and the King goes first into danger. Every step up that road is willing obedience, the nobleman of his own parable setting out to receive his kingdom.
