What Does Luke 19:41 Mean?
At the turn of the descent the city spreads before him, walls and rooftops and the temple shining beyond the Kidron valley. Around him the crowd is singing of kingship and peace. In the middle of the acclamation, the King breaks down and weeps over the city.
These are not quiet tears; the word describes open lamentation, mourning at full voice. The King weeps over the very city that will kill him within the week. Nothing in Scripture shows the heart of God toward the resistant more plainly: judgment may be coming, but it comes from a face wet with grief.
